Over the past 35 years CDYA has grown to organize and supervise a youth football and
cheerleading program consisting of about 700 kids. Since its inception, the Association has
produced some of the most competitive football and cheerleading teams.
In 1996 Central Dekalb completed its transformation as the dynamics of the Stone Mountain
community changed. The transformation culminated with the program changing its mascot
from the Central Dekalb Cardinals to the Central Dekalb Jaguars. This change was an effort to
become more in line with the local high school, Stephenson High Jaguars.
In 1997, Central Dekalb re-structured its organization and bylaws. Under the direction of
President Louis Fergerson, the name of the organization was changed to Central Dekalb Youth
Football Association. Now known as CDYFA, we have enjoyed numerous football and
cheerleading championships throughout the past 3 decades. The name Central Dekalb has
become synonymous with winning.
Under the leadership of President Tyrone Cornelieus Central Dekalb forged a great relationship
with the Atlanta Falcons and received an NFL grant to host the first NFL Flag Football. Under
the guidance President Cornelieus, the park spearheaded the Atlanta Falcons Junior Player
Development Camp and their High School Player Development Camp. Central Dekalb had then
become the model youth football program recognized by all programs. Atlanta Falcons owner
Arthur Blank called Central Dekalb "the best youth football program in Georgia" at the 2003
Youth Football Summit.
In 2004, President Cornelieus stepped aside and passed the torch to Valister Wilson. Under the
direction of President Wilson, Central Dekalb has continued to maintain the exceptional level of
success and professional standards that President Cornelieus set.
